A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy, responding to a silent alarm at the Idyllwild Post Office in Strawberry Plaza around 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, drew the attention of Idyllwild citizens in the area at the time.

Hemet Station Lieutenant Geoff Raya said there was nothing unusual about the deputy having a weapon out and directing people away from the location. “It is a safety protocol,” said Raya. He said it took several minutes for the deputy to determine that no crime had occurred. Raya said it was a false alarm.

  1. the Sheriff was texting w/ his iPhone on the way to the front door (during the initial response). The Park Ranger was the only one with his hand on his hip. There might've been a drawn weapon once inside, not publically
