The Idyllwild Master Chorale, continuing a long tradition of offering holiday concerts, presents “Convergence 2011,” a musical celebration blending traditional international carols, American spirituals, classical masterworks including sections from “The Messiah,” and a pop-jazz potpourri. Under the direction of Dwight A. “Buzz” Holmes, the Chorale has long been moving to expand its musical menu.

Drawing from a rich diversity of local artists, including Local Color, the all-female singing ensemble under the direction of Anna Pechanec Ancheta, the Seahawk Jazz Quintet led by Marshall Hawkins and featuring familiar tenor soloist John Fleming and jazz stylist Sherry Williams, the holiday confection will have something to please everyone’s palette. A chamber orchestra, also under Holmes’ direction will accompany the Master Works section, which features two selections from George Frederic Handel’s “The Messiah,”: “And the Glory of the Lord” and “For Unto Us a Child is Born.”

The concert concludes with heartwarming and familiar Christmas carols including “Winter Wonderland” and “White Christmas.”

Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students and children. “Convergence 2011” begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at Idyllwild School Auditorium and at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18. Tickets are available at www.idyllwildmasterchorale.com or by calling (951) 659-2650.
