Town Hall Sports Coordinator Jeremy Teeguarden reported on youth basketball for both the College League (kindergarten through third-grade) and the Pro League (third- through sixth-grade) for the week of Feb. 13.

College League (Kindergarten through third-grade)
On Friday, Feb. 17, the College League games started with a match between the Village Hardware Blue Devils and the Rotary Wildcats. The Wildcats built an early lead as they shared the ball great and three different players (Cody, Ellie, Gracie) scored in the first quarter. The Blue Devils got hot shooting in the third quarter as Fiona McMullen scored a couple of baskets to the lead the Blue Devils to a 22-14 win.

In the next game, the Gastrognome Gators and the Idyllwild Vacation Rentals Wolverines met. Both teams played a great game. The Wolverines’ Layton and Ethan Teeguarden were hot early as they took a lead into halftime. Preston Pino scored a bunch to keep the Gators close.

In the third quarter the Wolverines extended their lead and then had to play tough defense the rest of the game. The Gators came back but couldn’t wrest the lead from the Wolverines, who held on to win their first game of the year 20-19.

Pro League (Third- through sixth-grade)
The Pro League games began Tuesday night Feb. 14. The first game was between the Town Hall Clippers and the Roby Gray Construction Cavs. Vinny Parillo scored a couple early baskets to help give the Clippers an early lead. The Cavs Payton Priefer got hot in the fourth quarter scoring 6 quick points to help get the Cavs close, but in the end the Clippers went on to win 18-14.

The next game pitted the Pino Tree Service Heat against the Fairway Market Lakers. The Lakers took an early lead thanks in part to great play from Bowden Tate who played great defense all game. Fernando Lopez played great for the Heat all game playing strong defense. The Lakers ended up being too tough as they went on to win 18-10.

On Friday night, the Pro League teams played their second games of the week. The night started with play between the Idyllwild Automotive Grizzlies and the Roby Gray Construction Cavs. In the ultimate defensive game, both teams struggled to score baskets.

Garrett Goffman played great for the Cavs and scored their only first half basket. Arie Reyes scored the Grizzlies’ only basket in the second half as regulation time ended in a tie. Neither teams could score in the two overtime periods and the game ended in a 5-5 tie.

The night’s final game was between the Pino Tree Service Heat and the Town Crier Clippers. Kevin Posey played hard all game for the Heat and scored an early basket. The Heat scored a basket to take a 3 point lead with under two minutes to go.

The Clippers Chayton Kenyon played furious defense for the final couple minutes and scored a basket with less than a minute to get the Clippers to within a point. Then with just 5 seconds to play the Clippers Nicole Cochrane got a long pass and scored the winning basket. The Clippers won 17-16.
