The Anza Municipal Advisory Council was set to review 16 applications for a new Groundwater Management Steering Committee at its Wednesday, March 14, meeting.

The Council would review, recommend or reject applicants for an 11- to 15-member committee, balanced to include representation from residents, agriculture, community groups, tribes, business development, and water and utilities in the Anza Valley.

The immediate goal of the steering committee is to obtain additional grants to fund further groundwater studies and to begin groundwater management for the rainfall-dependent Anza Valley. The long-range goal is to plan, fund and develop a comprehensive groundwater management plan to assure the region has a sustainable future for all water users.

These are follow-up efforts to last year’s community meetings conducted by Daniel Cozad, Integrated Planning and Management Inc.
