Dr. Julia Bucci has been appointed the new Dean of Academics for Idyllwild Arts Academy. Idyllwild Arts President Brian D. Cohen announced the selection on Thursday, March 15. He said Bucci will begin in June and replaces Anna-Karin Li, who has been instrumental in strengthening the academic program at Idyllwild Arts.

Bucci is the chair of the English Department at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass.

Bucci earned her doctorate in English from the University of Massachusetts and her bachelor’s from the University of Chicago.

She has taught at the Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I., at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., and at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

She has authored numerous articles and has written reviews for various publications. As an educator, she has been active in curriculum development, teacher and leadership training, and instructing in all aspects of writing and speaking.

Her goals as an educator are to “to kindle intellectual passion, to fan the flames of creativity, and to nurture fiery resilience.” She feels that her strengths as an administrator “lie in my ability to develop plans and procedures for leading a group through major projects, to understand both the big picture and how the smaller pieces fit in — and also to inspire others through my example.”
