Last week, I took great pleasure sharing with you the number of awards the Town Crier recieved at the recent California Newspaper Publishers Association meeting.
Our staff invests much time trying to be timely and relevant for our readers. So four honors was significant.
In addition, I am proud to announce that Publisher Grace Reed was elected to the CNPA Board of Directors at their May 3 meeting.
Grace is not the first Town Crier publisher to serve on this august board. Former Publisher-Editor Becky Clark also served several terms on the CNPA board and is currently President of the California Press Association.
Gov. Jerry Brown announced his revised 2012-13 budget yesterday. The January budget deficit has grown 66 percent, from $9.2 billion to $15.7 billion. One of the reasons for this increased gap, according to the governor, is “a reduced revenue outlook.”
The phantom $4 billion he and the legislature added to the 2011-12 budget last June in order to claim it was balanced, has not appeared in the state coffers. To him, that’s unexpected.
To the rest of us, we told you 11 months ago, it was a mistake. The May revision also assumes the governor’s tax measure will be approved in November.
We’ll write more about the state budget next week.
A bittersweet story appears on page 1. Six members of the Idyllwild School faculty will retire in June after the school year ends.
We wish them well in the future and hope they continue to contribute to our children’s growth and maturity. We’ll miss seeing them as often (Who will organize “Blast to the Past”?) but new faces and names will join our community.
