After missing the cut in the True South Open three weeks ago, Brendan Steele returned to action last week scoring a tie for 8th place in the Reno-Tahoe Open. With modified Stableford scoring in effect, he scored 6-10-7-7 — 30 to win $83,000 in official prize money.

Over the four-day tournament, the Idyllwild native collected 19 birdies against only eight bogeys and no doubles. Modified Stableford scoring awards five points for each eagle and two for each birdie, and it penalizes each bogey with a minus one point and each double bogey with a minus two. The tournament was won with 43 points.

Sunday’s closing round saw Steele putting exceptionally well. He gained 2.402 strokes putting against the field and sank a fine 25-footer on the 9th hole.

Steele now has made the cut in 10 of his 19 starts this season and has scored four top-25 results, including three top tens. He has accumulated 330 FedEx Cup points so far, currently placing him 125th on that list.

This week’s performance brought Steele’s official earnings this year to $700,045, which currently puts him 108th on the PGA Tour money list. He will have next week off as the season heads into its final few months.
