Filing for trustee positions in the November election for the Hemet Unified School District remained open until Thursday, Aug. 16. Incumbent Charlotte Jones decided not to seek re-election.

At the Friday deadline, four candidates had submitted papers indicating their intention to seek one of the three trustee seats up for election.

Incumbents Marilyn Forst and Lisa DeForest are running for re-election. Two new candidates — James Stewart Brigham and Jim Smith — are also running.

Jones was first elected an HUSD trustee in 1996. She will finish her fourth term in December.

Forst served two terms from 1998 to 2006, when she was defeated for re-election. She won her third four-year term in 2008.

DeForest was elected trustee in 2008 and was the leading vote getter during that election.

Brigham is a former HUSD teacher and head of the Hemet Teachers Association. Smith is a former HUSD administrator.

Others interested in running for one of the seats have until 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, to submit their paperwork.
