Representatives of HMC Architects, Ontario and Hamel Contracting, Inc., conducted inspections of the new Idyllwild Branch Library in Strawberry Plaza on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Clipboard in hand, Evan Troxel of HMC moved throughout the new structure on a “punch walk,” asking questions of Dave Celani, Hamel foreman, and noting items requiring explanations or small adjustments. Troxel had a list of items to check or punch to show satisfactory completion or record what needed further attention.

This is a preliminary procedure before turning the library over to the Economic Development Agency and Friends of the Library for installation of furnishings and transferring books from the old library location and stocking the new. The library’s grand opening is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23.

There is no soft opening according to Tom Freeman, press spokesperson for EDA. “The contractor will finish up in the next few weeks with minor punch list items,” said Freeman. “Library collections will start to be introduced to the new library location next week for placement on shelving. Cataloging the new and existing circulation will take some time. And library furniture is scheduled to arrive the first week in October.”

Freeman said the new library will be “more than ready” for the grand opening.
