Around 8:40 am. on Saturday, Dec. 29 a Riverside County Sheriff's community service officer stopped to give assistance to an injured man on Highway 74, east of Strawberry Creek, between Mountain Center and East Hemet.
The man reported he had been fueling his car at a station on Chicago and Florida around 5:30 a.m. when 4 males approached, beat him and placed him in the trunk of his own car. They then drove to another location, beat him again, and placed him back in the trunk. When the car stopped on Highway 74, the man managed to escape from the trunk and hid in heavy brush.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment by responding paramedics.
