In the past week, two local politicians have announced their plans for the 2014 election season.

Third District Supervisor Jeff Stone told a crowd on Monday that he would not challenge Representative Ken Calvert, a Republican, from the 42nd congressional district.

“Politics was never in my plans, as I chose to become a pharmacist and attended pharmacy school. … I have shared, through my frustration and my desire, to potentially run for Congress,” Stone said in his statement. “I feel very strongly that our country is at a crossroads and we need leaders who will boldly lead and work together, without compromising their principles. …

“After serious consideration and consultation with my family and friends, I have decided not to run against Congressman Calvert in the 2014 Congressional election,” Stone concluded.

He and Calvert have spoken about several issues and Stone believes he and Calvert are in agreement.
