Young love, the Roaring Twenties, the French Riviera … the theatre department of Idyllwild Arts Academy presents its final show of the season, Sandy Wilson’s “The Boy Friend.”

Wilson wrote the book, music and lyrics, using popular music from the 1920s.

The girls of Madame Dubonnet’s Finishing School are in search of boy friends, and in particular young Polly Browne has her own adventure in this universal experience. Very wealthy, Polly cannot date just Tony, who may be more than he appears.

A mysterious beau, a disapproving father, a chorus of giggling girls chased by gangling boys and more are all part of this production. There’s a lot to love in “The Boy Friend,” said Director Howard Shangraw.

Julie Andrews catapulted to fame in the original Broadway musical production.

The cast includes more than twenty IAA theatre students: Ashley Arnold, Celeste Oliva, Ann Dang, Claire Frisinger, Paige McKeown, Santa Claire Hirsch, Grace Haggard, Javen Crosby, Charles Jones III, Lincoln Belford, Zen Ocean, Madison Gerringer, Christian Torrez, Wade Davis, Rowin Breaux, Jonathan Tibbs, Kimber Pritts, Mikaela Gerwing, Dorina Abubakar, Hannah Osgood, and Michelle Belain.

Music students Yoana Chukleva, Elena Minkova, and Claire Worsey join musicians Nelms McKelvain, Patrick Doran Sheeran and Keith McCabe. Alum Shen Liu, class of 2012, returns to round out the pit band.

The production will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19.
