McCullough was there for some neck surgery, but incurred breathing problems and eventually could not be resuscitated. His wife, Joan, survives.
McCullough was born Nov. 18, 1938. After settling in Idyllwild, he was elected to the Pine Cove Water District Board of Directors in 2002. He had been serving as board president since 2005. He was also treasurer for the Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council, where he has served since 2005.
