The award ceremony for the Idyllwild Summer Reading Program was held at the Library last Saturday afternoon to celebrate the culmination of the successful program themed “Reading is so Delicious.”
The program attracted 167 children and teens, the largest in the program’s eight-year history. During the two-month program, the children’s group read more than 1,285 books.
Awards were given in a variety of categories: Top 5 Children’s Readers, Top 5 Young Adult/Teen Readers, 5-Book Challenge Reader, Top Child Reader and the Grand Prize.
Top Child Reader Colin Villa Corta and Runner-up Ainsley Holladay read more than 10,000 pages each. Grand Prize winners Katie Zuidema read more than 11,000 pages with Rose Griesbreiger coming in at more than 10,000.
Prize sponsors included Country Farms Quik Stop, Arriba Mexican Restaurant, The Lumber Mill, Oma’s European Bakery, The Red Kettle, La Casita Mexican Restaurant, Hidden Village Restaurant, Café Aroma, In-n-Out and Togo’s.
Volunteers included Mary Zimmerman, Rachel Torrey, Heidi Tiso, Virginia Lumb, Pat Schwartz, Lu Ann Drury, Susan Righetti, Jan Van Zantan, Myra Dutton, Patty Carratello and Bonnie Doshier.
