Two passengers were killed in a two-car traffic collision Sunday afternoon just above Vista Point, 5 miles from Palm Desert.

Jason Alexamder, 25, of Palm Springs, was a passenger in a white BMW driven by an unnamed male.

Rosalinda Rossi, 58, of Palm Desert, was the passenger in a black Hyundai sedan also driven by an unnamed male. A California Highway Patrol spokesperson did not have the names of the drivers.

Alexander and Rossi died when the two vehicles collided head-on at 1:28 p.m. Alexander died at 1:51 p.m. and Rossi died at 1:48 p.m., according to the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

The two male drivers suffered major injuries and were taken to area hospitals, according to CHP.

Both deceased were wearing seat belts.

Highway 74 was closed through the afternoon. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
