California Secretary of State Debra Bowen reminded Californians that Sept. 24, 2013, was National Voter Registration Day, a time to register to vote or check one’s voter registration.

“The first step in making sure you’re ready to take part in next year’s statewide gubernatorial election is to register to vote and there is no better time to do it than on National Voter Registration Day,” said Bowen, California’s chief elections official. “Now that the voter registration application can be submitted online, everyone can log on and take two minutes to check ‘registering to vote’ off their to-do list.”

The state voter registration application is online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov and available on paper at many post offices, public libraries, California Department of Motor Vehicle offices, and other government offices.

If anyone is not sure if they are registered to vote, visit www.sos.ca.gov/elections/registration-status.

Since the online voter registration application was launched on Sept. 19, 2012, more than 911,750 Californians have registered for the first time or updated their voter record using this online system.
