On Monday afternoon, Sept. 23, a Waste Management truck driver on a routine stop at Tahquitz Pines apparently misjudged the height of the truck he was driving and leveled the large sign at the entrance.
Janet Clark, Tahquitz Pines office manager, said, “It was the same driver we always have, but he was in a different truck. [The driver] came into the office and said, ‘I hit your sign.’ I assumed it was one of the smaller signs we have around the property.”
Michael Jewell, Guest Services director, heard about the crash while at dinner Monday night. “Someone at a table next to us was talking about it. I said, ‘Wait a minute, I work there.’”
“The Idyllwild Fire Protection Department was driving by and taped off the area,” said Clark. “The next day we received a call from the driver’s supervisor [at Waste Management] and their insurance company called the following day. Everyone has been great,” she added.
