Town Hall Sports Coordinator Richard Mozeleski gave this report:

Week one of league play opened with a bang. In K-3 action, the Barracudas opened the season with the first win 11-7 over the Wildcats. Mecino Harrington continued his hot shooting from the preseason with 3 exciting baskets over the tough Wildcat defense, and Bradey Posey’s 2 baskets. The Barracudas had a commanding first-half lead of 11-0, but the Wildcats battled their way back in the second half, holding the swift ’Cudas scoreless and scoring 7 points to rally up to the end.

In the 4-6 division Thursday night action, fans were treated to a double-overtime spectacular between the Celtics and the Bulls, with the Celtics prevailing 23-21 behind the smooth guard play of Ben Tiso, who finished with 13 points. It was head-to-head play with Ben and Tobey Posey, who added 12 points himself. The second overtime looked like it might end in a draw, but for Zach Grey’s and Tiso’s last-minute hoops, pushing the Celtics over the top in a money’s-worth game for the fans.

And, again, “Friday Night Lights” was packed with double full-court action for the teenage Hoopsters and participating adult Mentors, as the youngsters reminded the adults of their current ages.

Friday was followed with the Saturday morning gym rats, with players coming out on a freezing morn to work on individual skills.
