During its Jan. 28 meeting, the Idyllwild Fire Protection District commission unanimously authorized Fire Chief Patrick Reitz to distribute a request for proposals to provide fire and emergency medical dispatch to the district.

The RFP requests responses will be based on IFPD’s estimated future workload. For example, the RFP estimates that medical responses, the largest type, will increase from 569 in 2013 to more than 680, a 20-percent growth.

The current contract with Riverside County Fire Department expires this spring and Reitz is concerned about its growing costs. Earlier this month, he initiated an overture to the county to open negotiations on a new contract, but has not had a response, he said Monday.
