Chess Club

In spite of the bad weather Sunday, kids showed up in multi-layers of clothing to battle each other on the boards.

A surprise development of the club is the side checkers game and who dominates it. Everybody’s favorite good guy, Paul Hamilton, operates on his victim challengers with the precision of a surgeon, and, of course, with a huge smile as he sends them away talking to themselves.

His presence is a delight but he needs more challengers, organizer Richard Mozeleski said.

The Chess Club meets from 3 to 5:30 p.m. every Sunday at Nature’s Wisdom. All ages are welcome but bring a chess board…

Naturalists and bird nesting-box specialists Samantha Dempster and Dan Lace will take hikers to some of the 45 nesting boxes in the San Jacinto Wildlife Area and show how to inspect, clean and survey the boxes.

Information will be provided on how to install and maintain nesting boxes and attract a variety of cavity-nesting birds on private property.

Meet Sue Nash, 909-228-6710, in the SJWA parking area, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 15.

The area is on the eastern border of Lake Perris. For directions to the event, call 951-928-0580.
