On Thursday, May 1, the two undefeated Mountain Pass League track teams —Hemet and San Jacinto high schools — met head-to-head before next week’s league meet.

Both of Hemet’s track teams — boys’ and girls’ — defeated San Jacinto and again former Idyllwild School students were significant contributors to Hemet’s victories.

While the hot and windy weather slowed times, three junior boys continued to achieve successes. Chad Schelly won the 400-meter race, was a member of the winning four-by-400 meter relay team and finished second to teammate Tanner Torrez in the 800-meter race. Classmate Jayden Emerson won the 3,200-meter race edging Torrez, who was a few strides ahead of Emerson in the 1,600-meter race, where they finished second and third respectively.

Torrez won the high jump. He had interrupted his jumps to run the 1,600-meter race. After some rest, he took his first and only jump clearing six feet, where his competition needed more jumps or failed.

Freshman Riley Arnson finished third in the girls’ 1,600-meter, just behind two Hemet teammates. She also was third in the girls’ 3,200-meter race.

Junior Allie Hitchcock ran the 4-by-100 meter relay race and the 100- and 200-meter races. The girls’ pole vault event was not part of this meet.
