Four people were injured in a traffic collision Sunday afternoon on Highway 74.

Michael Ayala, 18, of San Jacinto was traveling east on Highway 74 just east of Strawberry Creek in a 2007 white Subaru at 3:55 p.m. when he crossed the double-yellow lines into the path of a 2002 silver Toyota Highlander driven by Philip Deschene, 74, also of San Jacinto, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Darren Meyer.

Mercy Air transported Ayala to Riverside Regional Medical Center with a possible broken hip. American Medical Response ground-transported Deschene and two male passengers, one 72 and one 54, all complaining of chest pains and Deschene also of shortness of breath, to the same hospital.

Riverside County Fire Department personnel were involved in extricating the injured. Idyllwild Garage towed the vehicles, both of which sustained major damages.

Meyer said no drugs or alcohol were involved and though speed may have been a factor in the crash, no final cause has been determined.
