Since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, which clarified a woman’s right to abortion, about 57 million have been performed in the U.S.

A group of local individuals wanted to call attention to this issue in way that avoided histrionics and arguments.

“We were discussing the issue and nobody had any idea how many have occurred,” said John Cook, one of the leaders. “We wanted people to reflect on the huge numbers.”

On Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, a group of about 30 people assembled at the town monument. After several minutes of “prayer in the public square,” they walked to the Queen of Angels Church carrying 57 crosses, one for each million.

Fifty-seven crosses were also placed on the grounds of Idyllwild Bible Church, Shiloh Church and Crossroads at Highway 243.

The crosses will remain until Friday. From last Wednesday until Friday is nine days, representing the human nine-month gestation period.
