If you’re looking for comfort food, a good “loosey goosey” time, Vicki Streeter advises joining Lucy and Ethel at the Idyllwild HELP Center Vintage Fashion Show and Collectibles Auction.

“It’s a ’50s theme so we can be a little irreverent,” said Streeter, coordinator for the event. Streeter could not confirm if either Lucy or Ethel would attend, but promised the kind of innocent fun we all remember, or try to remember, we used to have.

“We’ll have all the comfort food — mac and cheese, Waldorf salad, deviled eggs, potato salad, fried chicken and root-beer floats, absolutely none of it for the health-conscious,” teased Streeter. Nanci Killingsworth is coordinating the food and Streeter promised a “calorie-free pass” for the day of the event only.

Streeter said fashion icon and former Idyllwild Arts faculty member Darrell Gillette will coordinate and moderate the fashion show. “All clothing worn by models will be from the HELP Center Thrift Shop,” said Streeter.

The event, a popular HELP Center perennial, runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in Gilboa Hall at Idyllwild Pines. Tickets are $20 at the HELP Center and at the door.

Streeter said there will be a silent and live auction of interesting and valuable items. All clothing worn at the fashion show also will be available for purchase, with all funds raised going to the HELP Center. Streeter will moderate the live auction. She said since she knows everyone, she will not be afraid to call people out during the auction with encouragements such as, “Look, I know you can afford more.” About the tone of the event, Streeter said, “We just want to make it fun for everyone.”

HELP Center volunteers will be at the Idyllwild Post Office selling tickets from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, and May 1.

The HELP Center is seeking table sponsors for the event as well as models for the fashion show. Locals interested in modeling should call Gillette at Creekstone Inn, 951-659-3342. For more information, see the HELP Center website at www.idyllwildhelpcenter.org.
