On Sunday, July 26, three Banning hikers were rescued on the mountain. About 2:40 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Cabazon Station received a call reporting three hikers in distress on the Pacific Crest Trail.

The hikers — Benji Schicke, 45, Mick Spencer, 27, and Kile Stewart, 23 — were in the Snow Creek Community.

About 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, the adventure started. A group of six hikers began their trek from Black Mountain Trail and Truck Trail. They planned to travel on the Pacific Crest Trail. The overnight hike was planned to finish at the Snow Creek Community Sunday.

Three of the hikers were unable to complete the descent into the Snow Creek Community due to illness, lack of water and de hydration. They were located and airlifted to safety by a Riverside County Sheriff Aviation unit.

All were in good health and no medical attention was needed.
