Southern California Edison has announced that two major power outages will occur in the Idyllwild and Pine Cove area in August, according to Louis Davis, SCE’s regional manager of local public affairs.

The first will be from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, through 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. The second will be one week later, Aug. 26 to Aug 27, and include the same areas.

SCE needs to replace an underground substation near the entrance to Idyllwild, requiring the power outages. During the first outage, SCE will install a bypass so that power can be returned while work continues. The second outage is to eliminate the bypass and begin operating the substation as normal.

The Aug. 19 outage will affect everything north of Pine Cove Road on Highway 243 out past Round Robin Road, as well as areas off of Pine Cove Road, Sylvan, Acorn, Appelton and connector streets in the area, according to Davis.

All of the necessary agencies have been notified, including the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet Station, Idyllwild Fire Protection District and California Highway Patrol, he added. Extra deputies will patrol the area during the two outages.

As more details are available, the Town Crier will post this information.
