While two local water districts — Idyllwild and Pine Cove — are in the midst of a heated campaign for board seats, two other local special districts — Fern Valley Water and Idyllwild Fire Protection — settled the filling of their board seats without needing the August vote-by-mail election.

At the July 21 Board of Supervisors meeting, Riverside County Registrar of Voters Rebecca Spencer recommended the board make appointments for the seats whose terms expire in December, because of insufficient nominees to need the election process.

For Fern Valley, the nominees appointed, were Trischa Clark and Richard Schnetzer. Both are on the board and will begin full four-year terms in December.

For Idyllwild Fire Protection, the only candidates for two commission seats are Jerry Buchanan and Larry Donahoo. Both are currently serving on the commission and will begin new four-year terms in December.

Candidate forums for the Idyllwild and Pine Cove water districts were earlier this week. Ballots for these elections must be received at the Registrar of Voters office by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, or be postmarked on or before election day and received no later than three days after election day.
