At a special meeting, Idyllwild Water District directors approved a contact with Aquatic Inspections of Encinitas to inspect and to clean the district’s water tanks.

“I’ve been working on getting the water tanks inspected and cleaned since last spring,” General Manager Tom Lynch told the board. “These companies schedule work six to seven months in advance. But I’d like to accomplish this before winter.”

Board President Jim Billman reported that the final pieces of information from the three bidders arrived after the September meeting. But to award the contract in order to complete the inspections and cleaning this fall, a decision could not await the Oct. 21 meeting.

Lynch recommended Aquatics, who submitted both the low bid and the most comprehensive response. For example, one firm would not provide written reports of the inspection results.

Unanimously, the board approved Lynch’s recommendation to award a contract for nearly $21,000 to Aquatics. In addition to the physical inspection of the inside of the District’s 13 tanks, the cleaning will remove up to one inch of sediment from the tank floor.
