According to the California Highway Patrol, a solo-vehicle traffic collision occurred on Highway 74 near mile marker 52 about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. The single occupant was driving eastbound when for an unknown reason, lost control of the silver Chrysler, smashing into the mountain on the westbound side of the highway. Highway 74 was closed in both directions for about one hour as Riverside County Fire used the jaws of life to extract the driver. The victim was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital with unknown injuries.        Photo by Jenny Kirchner
