The Idyllwild Fire Protection District Commission has announced a special meeting Monday morning, May 23 at 9 a.m. at the District’s conference.

The meeting’s purpose is to discuss the proposed Joint Powers Authority with San Jacinto City for fire and emergency services. The agenda suggests the Commission may use the meeting to approve joining the agreement.

Currently, San Jacinto contracts with Riverside County for fire and emergency services.

According to the material, which IFPD has prepared, the JPA should result in cost savings and operational efficiencies for both agencies. The establishment of the JPA should not affect fire and ambulance service in Idyllwild, Fire Chief Patrick Reitz said last week. The JPA should create revenue for the District as a result of managing the work in San Jacinto. The JPA will reimburse some percentage of the IFPD Fire Chief’s, a Battalion Chief’s and administrative staff salaries.

The Finance Committee met on Wednesday, May 18 but chose not to place the financial consequences of the possible agreement on their agenda.

The District’s regular May meeting will be Tuesday, May 24 at 1 p.m.
