The 2nd Annual Paws for Rhythm and Brews fundraiser for Idyllwild’s Animal Rescue Friends will be Saturday, June 4. The event, with more brewers than the first Paws and Rhythm last year, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Idyllwild Nature Center.
This year, the organizers have invited 16 brewers — beers and hard cider. Among the new and well-known attractions are Latitude 33 Brewing and Belching Beaver Brewery of Vista, Garage Brewery of Temecula, and Lagunitas Brewery of Petaluma.
A home brewers contest is part of the fundraiser. The entry date closed May 25 and the judging will be May 29 at the Coachella Valley Brewery. The winners will be announced at 12:45 p.m. during the beer fest. There will also be a homebrewers demonstration during the afternoon.
This year’s event will also have more food vendors. Big Dev of San Diego is returning, and two local venders — Sky Island and CJ’s — will also have nourishments for the attendees.
Music will again be provided by Super 300 Swing Loaded Blues.
The stein holding contest will be held again and begins at 1 p.m., the entry fee is $15. As they did last year, there are separate women’s and men’s divisions. Chris Austin and Katie Jones, the 2015 winners, have agreed to participate and take on the new challengers, according to Janice Murasko, the event’s founder and organizer.
New this year will be a silent auction, said Murasko. The available items include cast photos and floor tiles from NBC’s set of “ER,” autographed scripts and photos from CW’s “Jane the Virgin” and CBS’s “The Crazy Ones,” which starred Robin Williams.
Before the beer fest, tickets are $25 and include 10 tasting tickets. At the gate, tickets will be $30. Designated drivers and other non-alcoholic consumers may enter for $5 and children under 12 years are free.
