Dirt bikers aid in rescue of hiker on remote trail

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, three dirt-bike riders came upon a man collapsed on a trail in the area of Forest Route 5S15 south of Highway 74 in Mountain Center.

The three riders alerted 911 and Riverside County Sheriff’s Helicopter Star9 located the riders, and the man who was suffering from disorientation and dehydration.

The helicopter crew dropped water to the bystanders and patient. The three riders used the water to cool the man until paramedics made their way to the patient’s location.

Reports described the man as having an altered level of consciousness. He was initially transported to the U.S. Forest Service’s Cranston station and then to an area hospital.
