Brendan Steele began with a 2-over-par 73 Thursday, then followed with a 1-under-par 70 Friday and a 3-under-par 68 Saturday to claim a tie for 22nd going into the final round of The Barclays on the Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale, New York, the first of four season-ending playoff tournaments. Then Sunday, the Idyllwild native posted a 1-over-par 72 to finish the tournament tied for 22nd. For the tournament, he gained strokes on the field both tee-to-green and putting.

On the all-important FedExCup points list, the Idyllwild native moved from 55th to 46th. He needs to move into the top 30 by the end of next week after the BMW Championship, the third playoff tournament, in order to make it into the Tour Championship — and all the 2017 major tournament entries that thereby would come to him.

Brendan plays this week in the $8.5 million Deutsche Bank Championship on the TPC Boston course in Norton, Massachusetts. He’ll tee off Friday, not Thursday, in the Deutsche Bank, which concludes on Labor Day Monday.

B’s tee times will come available about the middle of this week. Check with us online.
