UPDATE: Road fatality near Thomas Mountain Village

One person was killed and three injured in a 2-vehicle collision on Highway 74 at Courtesy Drive in Garner Valley this morning. The coroner has identified the deceased as Stanley Vandyke of Oceanside.

The collision between a red Ford Fiesta and white Ford truck was reported at 10:33 a.m. Cal Fire paramedics used cut and rescue to remove and to pull the driver from the sedan. That person was transported via ground and helicopter from Lake Hemet Campground to a nearby trauma center. Two other individuals were transported via AMR to area hospitals. A passenger dog was being treated for injuries on-scene.

Highway 74 was closed in both directions with CHP on scene and controlled through traffic.

Traffic was being detoured to Butterfly Peak Rd. to Tunnel Springs Rd. to Barbara Lee Dr. By mid-afternoon the road was entirely open.
