General public invited

This winter, the Art Alliance of Idyllwild will host several premier art events showcasing original pieces acquirable directly from local artists plus opportunities to see “art in action.”

The Winter Solstice Art Show features more than 100 unique holiday gifts, including jewelry, ceramics, paintings, mixed media, photographs, wearable art and many other artisan-crafted pieces. It includes music and artist demonstrations.

This one-day, judged, optional “Winter” themed Art Show begins at noon Saturday, Dec. 16, and is followed by an artist reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. that is open to all with wine and nibbles at Town Hall.

The Artistry of Words from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. This unique charity event will pair painters with poets to celebrate the creation of a signature painting coupled with an inspiring poem. This poetic painting event will culminate with the paintings’ unveiling and a reading by each respective poet.

Both pieces will be available for a donation. Artists, painters, poets and songwriters interested in participating should email artinidyllwild@gmail.com. Bring your favorite potluck dish to the Town Hall for this special community social gathering. Vote for your favorite team and the winners will receive a “People’s Choice” award.

It was inevitable that the Deer Sightings, Idyllwild’s colorful herd of 21 painted deer, is to expand. If your organization or company would like to be placed on the “map,” the AAI is seeking site sponsors, deer sponsors and volunteer artists. The project will kick off during January and culminate with the debut of the new painted deer at the AAI’s Summer Solstice Art Show on June 16. Express your interest by contacting artinidyllwild@gmail.com.

The Under $100 Art Show is Saturday, Feb. 10. In its fourth year, this popular event presents an opportunity to acquire an original piece of art in time for Valentine’s Day.

AAI’s annual Member Meeting is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. AAI invites the local community to join in the planning of its events, community art projects and particularly the next Art Walk and Wine Tasting. Take this opportunity to make suggestions and help guide the direction of this community-based organization. Refreshments will be served. The venue is still not decided.
