About 5:30 a.m. Friday, a 2.9-magnitude earthquake occurred about 4 miles south of Idyllwild. The original estimate was a 3.4-magnitude quake.

The quake rumbled for several seconds before ending in a boom. No major damage has been reported.

The tremor was felt from Murrieta and Temecula in the west and east to Indio based on individual responses online at the U.S. Geological Earthquake site (earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci37918679#dyfi). More than 80 responses from Palm Springs and Palm Desert neighborhoods indicated sensing the earth shake.

A much smaller tremor (magnitude 1.1) occurred slightly closer to Idyllwild on Saturday morning. And late Sunday afternoon, a 3.9-magnitude quake occurred in Joshua Tree National Park.

No damage was reported.
