Only in Idyllwild

I was at the Transfer Station emptying bags of pine needles when my neighbor, Geno, came looking for his cell phone that he had just lost. He asked if I had a cell phone and would I dial his number. I said, “Sure,” and proceeded to do so. His cell phone rang and he found […]

Idyllwild Arts, water district discuss future supply

Officials from Idyllwild Arts (IA) attended the Idyllwild Water District (IWD) meeting to discuss the school’s future construction plans. While IA has not completed the county’s planning process, Jon Newman, IA’s dean of students, told the board that a “will serve” letter for the new health center should be submitted in early 2012. Initial Thoughts: Forest Service the new “Black Op” agency … ?

The latest federal agency to join the war on terrorism appears to be the Forest Service. I make this assumption since the agency is not revealing any information about the San Bernardino National Forest budget. Apparently that data is off-limits to the public. While the agency’s national budget is available online, the local budget appears […]

Opinion: Why we need the safety net

Here I am just hanging up from a Republican National Committee fundraiser call. I explained to the nice 27-seven-year-old that I have seen too much swill from the fat-cat-friendly tea baggers or the sue-happy liberals that I just don’t think either have anyone’s best interest at heart but their own. This includes letter-writer Mr. Ferguson, […]

Idyllwild Arts adds sustainability goal

At its monthly meeting, the Idyllwild Arts Sustainability Committee discussed water conservation, energy usage, security, turning off lights and turning down thermostats. This summer, shortly after assuming his role as school president, Brian Cohen suggested the school formalize a group to explore and implement conservation and sustainability ideas. The result is a committee comprised of […]

Lola’s Kitchen: Tailgating — food and football …

Football season is here and so is tailgating. Anyone who knows me knows I love football. The closest NFL team is the San Diego Chargers, and they are my favorite team! Despite the distance to the stadium and parking lot, my family and friends still manage to tailgate before games. We simply fill our living […]

Fern Valley Water settles customer problem, faces another

The Fern Valley Water District (FVWD) has resolved one customer problem concerning a sewer line shared with the district office, but will face a different problem at a December small claims court date. The sewer line issue came to the district’s attention in March, when a new owner purchased the property directly north of the […]
