It sure seems equitable for the Chiefs who apparently get some sort of unknown amount for a raise, meanwhile they’ll be driving back and forth 60 and 40 percent of the time respectively. And then, you introduce a desert department into the equation. Ok, so San Jacinto is already a busy city for fire and emergency medical services. They’ll have a significant demand on town resources. Now, throw in (hypothetical desert city like cathedral city or palm Springs) which are also busy departments (this is all public record) and the Chiefs will be running back and forth on both sides of the mountain CONSTANTLY. Now we need to replace their trucks every other year due to the HIGH mileage. Cha ching. It doesn’t take a stretch of the imagination to say after a short while (after Idyllwild is perpetually without its chiefs) that the answer will be to HIRE MORE CHIEFS for a ‘small tax increase’ blah blah blah. Cha ching. Yeah, no thanks. This makes no sense.
