Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report on the Friday, Aug. 17, golf tournament played at The Country Club at Soboba Springs.<\/p>\n
The day was very hot and muggy, but the course was in excellent shape.<\/p>\n
Playoffs<\/strong> In an unfortunate turn of events, after the tournament the Palms to Pines Golf Associations discovered that the Southern California Golf Association will not allow any player with a handicap of more than 24.4 to play in the Tournament of Club Champions. Therefore, McAndrews, with a handicap of 37, won\u2019t be able to continue in the playoffs, which will affect the semi-final round of the local association\u2019s playoffs.<\/p>\n Instead of playing McAndrews, the winner of the Alkire and Ragland match will get a bye in September.<\/p>\n The other September semi-final match will pair Leong against the winner of the Priefer and Stearns match.<\/p>\n Regular 2012-13 Tournament<\/strong> The four closest-to-the-pin contests were won by Priefer, Ragland, Feyder and Scott Schroeder.<\/p>\n After the new season\u2019s first tournament, here are the point standings:<\/p>\n
\nIn the first round of the match-play playoffs, John McAndrews (course handicap 37) beat Crandall (9) four holes up with three to play. Gary Leong (14) bested John Brower (8) one up after 18 holes. Bob Stearns (19) and Robert Priefer (23) battled it out toe to toe all day and finally wound up with a tie, so they\u2019ll play another round before the next tourney to determine the winner. As will Chuck Alkire (13) and Bill Ragland (13), since they could not play their match.<\/p>\n
\nIn the first regular tourney of the 2012-13 season, Pete Capparelli (22), Mike Feyder (22), and Bill Sanborn (26) tied for first place with net 65s. Priefer was alone in fourth with a net 70, and Gary Brown (15) and John LoGiudice (22) tied for fifth with net 71s.<\/p>\n
