Photo by Jessica Priefer <\/figcaption><\/figure>The Mountain Pass League track and field championships showcased many Hemet High School students, including several current and former Idyllwild residents.<\/p>\nAt the Friday, May 3, meet Hemet senior Danika Hitchcock won the girls long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 4 inches, which qualified her for the CIF meet. She also finished second in both the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump and was member of Hemet\u2019s 100-meter relay team which finished third.<\/p>\n
Allison Hitchcock, Danika\u2019s sister and a Hemet High sophomore, tied for third in the pole vault and was a member of the 400-meter relay team, which finished fourth.<\/p>\n
A third Hemet athlete, former Idyllwild resident, Briana Williams also performed well at the meet. She won the women\u2019s pole vault and was second in the high jump. \nTanner Torrez runs the 1600-meter race at the Mountain Pass League championships. Photo by J.P. Crumrine<\/figcaption><\/figure> \nThe boys were nearly as successful. Jayden Emerson ran the 3200-meter race in 10:17.25 to finish second. Teammate Tanner Torrez was fourth in both the men\u2019s high jump and 1600-meter race. Chad Schelly, who was ailing, could not run the 800 meters, but did help the 400-meter relay team.<\/p>\nAll of the boys are sophomores.<\/p>\n
The meet was scheduled for Wednesday, May 1; but smoke from the Summit Fire postponed it until Friday and it was moved to Hemet High Stadium. \nChad Schelly beginning his lap of the 400-meter relay.
