Stearns<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Robert P. Stearns of Idyllwild and Palm Desert passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Son of Howard and Codie Stearns, brother of Tom (Barbara) Stearns, husband of Gisela and father of Maria, uncle to Lett, Bryan, Mark and Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Bob was co-founder of SCS Engineers in Long Beach in 1970. He was president at SCS Engineers for 36 years and retired in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>The Pacific Palms Resort Project earned the \u201cOutstanding Civil Engineering Achievement\u201d of the year award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Bob was inducted into the Environmental Industries Association \u201cHall of Fame\u201d in 2003. He was named a \u201cProfessional Achievement Award \u2014 Life Member\u201d by the Solid Waste Association of North America in 2009 and served the American Society of Civil Engineers in many capacities, including as chairman of ASCE\u2019s National Ethics Committee.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial service will be held in September. Details will be published on www.scsengineers.com.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Bob\u2019s favorite charity: Animal Rescue Friends of Idyllwild, http:\/\/arfidyllwild.weebly.com\/donatetoarf.html<\/p>\n<p>The family appreciates the outpouring of sympathy and love from all of our friends.<\/p>\n<p>He will be very much missed but never forgotten.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert P.
