File photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of Murrieta\u2019s Mayor Pro Tem Randon Lane received a presidential appointment to a communications position at the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. and announced his resignation Tuesday night, Aug. 6. He made the announcement via Twitter and at the Murrieta city council meeting and the resignation will take effect Aug. 31. <br>\n    \u201cStinkin\u2019 cool,\u201d is how Lane described the opportunity in a telephone call with the Town Crier on Aug. 8. \u201cI think I\u2019ve known one person with a presidential appointment.\u201d <br>\n    Lane tweeted earlier Aug. 6 encouraging residents to attend the city council meeting that night \u201cfor a special announcement.\u201d<br>\n    \u201cIt is with extremely mixed emotions I announce my resignation from the Murrieta City Council,\u201d he told his colleagues and public.<br>\n    He also stated during the phone call that he is very excited and believes President Donald Trump will be reelected so his tenure will not be just a year. <br>\n    Lane immediately withdrew from the Riverside County Third District Supervisor\u2019s race, after having announced his challenge to incumbent Supervisor Chuck Washington in February. <br>\n    As of June, Lane raised about $28,000 for his supervisor campaign. The primary is scheduled for March 2020. <br>\n    Lane ran for the supervisor seat in June 2016 primary and finished third.
