Last Thursday, Feb. 19, the “Hillbilly Games” were held at the Idyllwild Library. The first event pitted two teams in a game of Idyllwild Jeopardy. Here, members of Team One — Barbara Hunt, Bud Hunt and Gina Genis — prepare to answer the first question, “Who was named homecoming queen the same year her brother, David, came home from the Air Force?” All the questions were based on archived copies of the Idyllwild Town Crier, available at the Idyllwild Library or online, from 1949 through 1956.
The Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s 20th-annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting on Saturday Oct. 14, came alive with laughter and music. The day attracted more than 1,100 art and wine lovers. Ryan Zwahlen, new chair of the Idyllwild Arts (IA) Music Department, is shaking things up a bit in the music curriculum. He has added a songwriting concentration for the first time this year. With trumpeter Stan Watkins and vocalist Sherry Williams, the Keith Droste Quintet wowed the capacity crowd at its Thursday, Aug. 4 performance as part of Idyllwild Summer Concert Series. Keith Droste, on keyboard, along with Luther Hughes on bass and Sinclair Lott on drums played a medley of Broadway show tunes, old standards and jazz and pop selections.
