Yes, it is true that the noise from the playground was loud and distracting for us, especially during the quieter pieces.

I am at a loss to understand why the playground was placed right next to the stage. I assume space was an issue.

However, I would like to suggest that the play area be closed during the concerts. Parents should encourage their children to listen to the music — that’s why we were there.

There is a time for play and a time for the enrichment of the soul and children must be taught how to behave appropriately.

Adult audience members, too, should realize the difference between a social activity, such as dinner out-doors with friends, and a concert. There was sufficient time to enjoy both.

When the concert is in progress, it would be appreciated by the musicians if those attending the concert would actually attend, that is, listen.

However, through all of this, the orchestra and I had a wonderful time. We enjoyed being in the cool, beautiful setting of Idyllwild (many of us came from the desert and its heat) and, for the most part, the audience was lovely and welcoming.

We look forward to a repeat performance next summer.

Thank you for your kind words.
