U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz and Assemblyman Brian Nestande have agreed to a televised debate.

The one-hour event will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, the night before the first votes will be cast in the 36th Congressional race.

Because of the television studio size, there will be no live audience.

Instead, the political gunfight will be broadcast live on KESQ News Channel 3, its sister station, CBS Local 2, DesertSun.com and the television stations’ websites.

The event is co-sponsored by the Desert Sun Media Group, Gulf-California Broadcast Co., and the News-Press and Gazette Co.

Mail voting for the November election starts on Oct. 6.
