The lawsuit brought by Cal Fire and other plaintiffs in Riverside County Superior Court regarding the 2013 Mountain Fire has been set for an Order to Show Cause why some or all of the matter should not be dismissed following settlement. The hearing is set for Aug. 30, at 8:30 a.m. in Department 1 in Riverside.

The Town Crier has requested that the office of the California Attorney General supply as much information as possible regarding the identities of the settling parties and the terms of the settlement.

If the settlement is approved and the case is dismissed, it would bring to an end the state-court aspect of litigation for the settling parties.

The U.S. Forest Service also filed suit against the defendants for damages to federal lands and costs of fire suppression stemming from the same fire. That suit was filed in federal court in Los Angeles and will not be affected by any state court settlement.
