Nominations for the Aug. 27 election of three directors to the Fern Valley Water District may be submitted to Riverside County Registrar of Voters Rebecca Spencer. The official nominating period opened Monday, May 6, and will end at 5 p.m. Friday, May 31.
The nomination period can be extended if an incumbent director does not file papers with the Registrar’s Office by May 31. The decision of an incumbent not to seek re-election will extend the deadline for that office to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 for everyone except the incumbent.
FVWD has three seats up for election in August. The terms of incumbents President Trischa Clark and Vice President Richard Schnetzer end December 2019. Clark was elected to the board in 2011 and re-elected in 2015. Schnetzer was appointed in October 2014 and elected to a full term the following year.
Also, the final two years of former Director George Rowell’s seat will be on the ballot.
If the number of nominations does not exceed the positions for election, a formal election will not be needed and the Board of Supervisors may appoint the eligible nominees. In 2017, that was the result of the FVWD election.
FVWD directors must own property within the district, but do not have to be full-time residents.
The Registrar of Voters’ staff is available to help prospective candidates complete the necessary paperwork and to answer questions. Candidates unsure about the local district offices for which they are eligible, based on residency, should contact the Registrar of Voters office for help. Candidates will receive informational handbooks at the time they obtain their papers.
