The success of last summer’s One World. One Idyllwild. (https://www.idyllwildarts.org/oneworldoneidyllwild/) global showcase of the citizen artists of Idyllwild Arts has inspired a new podcast series. Hosted by Idyllwild Arts Foundation President Pamela Jordan, the series will feature interviews with thought- leaders, creatives, influencers and changemakers from around the world.
Jordan’s guest on the premiere episode of “One World. One Idyllwild. The Series” exemplifies the tireless courage and confidence of the citizen artist. Thanh Bui, an award-winning Australian-Vietnamese singer-songwriter, chose to leave his parents and his homeland in order to pursue a career that led to numerous gold records and No. 1 hit songs — but then returned to Vietnam to open its first art school.
Subsequent guests include Steven Lavine, former president of California Institute of the Arts and subject of Jörn Jacob Rohwer’s recent book, “Steven D. Lavine – Failure is What It’s All About: A Life Devoted to Leadership in the Arts;” Jason Patera, the endurance athlete and Head of School of Chicago Academy for the Arts who is known for his TED Talk, “Life at the Intersection of Excellence, Purpose, and Passion;” and Jordan’s mentor Reveta Bowers, mentor of hundreds of school leaders during her 42-year tenure as Head of School at the prestigious Center for Early Education in Los Angeles. She speaks with Jordan about her career, diversity and inclusion in independent schools, and her family’s experiences during the Black Wall Street Massacre of 1921. Each episode will also feature an Idyllwild Arts student whose art is winning awards and being shown around the world.
Keep an eye on “One World. One Idyllwild. The Series” to learn from Bui, Lavine, Patera, Bowers and their successors on the show. Every thought leader that Jordan will interview is unique. Yet, they are not alone. The fact that large numbers of creative people are determined to bring positive change to the world is both astonishing and heartening. Jordan is thrilled by the prospect of introducing many of them to you.
