The Art Alliance of Idyllwild (AAI) staged its third “Herd Gathering” May 15 to the delight of locals and visitors. IdyPark provided the perfect setting to display the 13 newly painted deer and one coyote, together with three refurbished deer from the original 2013 herd.

A family of deer will grace The Fort: a buck “Anthony” by Fiona McMullen, a doe “Jeanine’s Sparkle” by Sasha Nicol and a fawn by MeiXing Hunt-Babcock. Situated nearby will be the colorful art of Wyatt Brown, n.s. david and Zach Mroczkowski in the form of a coyote.

Sarah and Emily Brosterhous crafted an enchanted forest with the doe “Ivy” to be placed in front of Forest Realty.

The Idyllwild Arts Academy Visual Arts Department Class of 2021 painted a family of deer with the buck “Camouflage,” a doe “Tribute” and a fawn “Diversions.” These will be installed on the Idyllwild Arts Academy campus.

Jon Bauer honored Cahuilla traditions with the buck “Native Deer” and its traditional baskets. It will be installed at Strawberry Creek Plaza along with “Ida Quilter,” one of the refurbished 2013 deer (previously at Pine Cove Market).

The AAI’s generous raffle donors and volunteers contributed to the success of this project and herd gathering event. The Butterfields and Shane Stewart permitted the use of IdyPark.

These new additions bring the herd up to 61 deer and two coyotes. The “Trail of the Painted Deer” map is being updated to include these new works of art.
