Fern Valley Water District’s Director James Gates resigned in June, leaving a vacancy before the upcoming election but after the filing period. The district had the number of applications as seats up for election, so an election is not necessary.

The newspaper previously reported, “No firm answer has been received by the district from the County Registrar of Voters office on how to proceed with the upcoming election and the resignation of Gates. The district spoke with its legal counsel, who said he doesn’t see a problem with an appointment to fill the seat and that the district may have to go through an appointment twice — one now and another again in December at the end of Gates’ term.” This has since been confirmed with the Registrar of Voters office.

The district wrote in its vacancy announcement the board intends to fill the vacancy during its next regular meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20 at the district’s office, 55790 South Circle Dr., via teleconference and electronically.

Included in the announcement is, “Interested Fern Valley landowners should contact the office for an application to be submitted with their letter of interest and résumé to the district office no later than Aug. 17” to the office. Documents may also be submitted by mail to P.O. Box 3039 Idyllwild CA. 92549.
